Rooftop shoot with Sebastien Descormiers

A few weeks ago, I met up with Sebastien Descormiers, for a photoshoot in downtown Montreal. We met at Square Philips and took some photos around the statue, then headed for a nearby alley for some more grunge-style photos. He used to work in a nearby building and knew how to get up on the roof. So we went up, exploring. I loved the fire escape and the rooftop for an urban shoot. Lots of rust and debris and bricks: great textures and lines…

Unfortunately, I left one of my camera bags lower down when I went up to shoot on the roof. And when I came back it was gone! Boo. :( Thankfully, there was not too much equipment in it. But I certainly learned a lesson about urban photoshoots: Watch your stuff!

I’m glad we got some good photos out of the experience, even if the theft was a bit of a downer. Here are a few of my favourites:

Isabelle & Andrew’s engagement pictures

I met Isabelle and Andrew for the first time when they came to Montreal for an engagement photo session a few weeks ago. We had a fun time playing tourists in the Old Port, hunting up picturesque corners and seeing the sights.
They have only been engaged for a short while (which is why Isabelle’s ring is sometimes on the wrong finger…lol), and it was so nice to hear their story and get to know this couple. They like to laugh LOTS and are ready to try anything, including BIXI rides, jump shots and a very slow race with a calèche horse. ;)

Here are a few of my favourite photos from that day:

Early morning shoot with Rodrigo

Here’s some photos from another early morning shoot. This time at the stadium grounds. Rodrigo was great and tried a bunch of ideas (jump shots, fighting, breathing smoke…lol!).

But man, getting up so early is hard! I think now the sun’s out later, I will just do shoots in the evening…argh…

Early morning shoot with Chelsea

Each morning on my way to work, I’d been sighing at the sweet winter light–knowing I didn’t have time to shoot in it. I decided that next chance I got, if I found some willing models, I’d get up early and do a mini-shoot before work. Hum…coffeeeee required. So last week, I met up with Chelsea Woodhouse–a lovely early bird of a model–and we ventured out at about 6:30 in the morning for a shoot in the Plateau. There are so many cute areas in that neighbourhood…we headed for Parc Lafontaine, chasing the rising sun. So, here’s a scoop on sunny winter mornings–they’re painfully cold! I’d applaud my courageous model, but I’m afraid all my fingers fell off from frostbite.

Here’s a mini-slideshow of my faves:

Pierre & Natasha’s engagement photos

Pierre and Natasha were in Montreal a few weekends ago and we stole our chance to meet up and take some engagement photos… They told me all about their upcoming wedding (looking forward to shooting it!!) and then we headed off to the bird sanctuary at Iles-aux-Hérons in Lasalle for the shoot. Here’s a taste of what they’re like: a quiet, fun-loving couple with the best smiles!

Jen & David’s wedding on January 1, 2011

Yep. You heard right: Jen and David were married on New Year’s Day. Pretty cool–in more ways than one! It was a lovely mild winter day and their family and friends gathered from far and wide. It was a pleasure to witness their simple, joy-filled wedding and I was honored to photograph it.

Here’s a slideshow to share a bit of their story.

Congratulations Jen & David!

Will, Danielle & Lea

I spent this Saturday morning doing a sweet family photo session with Will and Danielle and their toddler, Lea. It wasn’t snowing so we added some in. Can you tell? It doesn’t look faked at all, right? Hehe…just kidding.

Becky & Nathan – November 13, 2010

My cousin Becky got married last weekend! We made the road trip down to Michigan for the wedding and I helped out her brother a bit with the photos. He’s a photographer too.

The salon where the girls got their hair done was nice to shoot in…very airy light with huge bank of windows, modern decor, lines and lots of space to move about in. The girls’ hair also looked awesome.  I just googled the place and it’s called the Be Je Salon, in Port Huron. I would definitely recommend checking them out if you’re from the area, especially since we forgot a laptop at the salon and Elaine was nice enough to drive it to the church! Maybe it’s a bit of small-town kindness, but I was impressed.

The wedding was sweet with Becky’s daughter and niece (both toddlers) making it down the aisle together as flower girls. Cute! Nathan was emotional at seeing his bride…hehe, who wouldn’t be? It was fun getting to know him and his family–and their sense of humour. His brother’s toast was hilarious. I also loved that they had cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. Very trendy!

Hope you enjoy these few images from Becky’s wedding. To see more photos, check out the slideshow.

Workshop with LeahAndMark

On Saturday, I went to the Studio4fun on St-Hubert street for an informal workshop with Mark of LeahAndMark.com. He’s a very down-to-earth and friendly photographer from one of the Carolina’s (maybe South?), who was in Montreal with his wife. While she attended a conference, he spent some of his free time getting to know Montreal and shooting with photographers and models from here. I think that’s awesome. And I also think it’s awesome that he gave his time to teach a mini-workshop to a bunch of strangers. :)

It just goes to show that being generous is a great way to get the word out about your photography, cause here I am, being all fan-club-like and spreading the news. Hey, I’m always looking for new heroes.

I enjoyed the relaxed shooting atmosphere and the chance to meet some new models and photographers. Here are a few of my favourite shots of the afternoon:

It was my first time shooting with Marie-Pier, who’s from Quebec City. She brought a funky pair of glasses and lots of sequins.
