03 Aug Birks Chapel wedding in downtown Montreal
Sarah and Brendan were married in a touching Catholic ceremony at the Birks Chapel on McGill University campus in downtown Montreal.
While photographing the wedding, I could see that the bride and groom found great meaning in the religious aspects of the ceremony and were so sincere in their commitment to each other. They prayed together quietly during the ceremony as emotions ran high.
Earlier in the day, my second shooter and I joined the couple as they got ready in separate rooms at the Loews Hotel Vogue with their family and friends. I favour a photojournalistic approach to most of the wedding day, capturing candid moments as they unfold.
We followed the bride and groom to the steps of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts where they had an emotional first look, seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day. Then, we photographed them making their way along Sherbrooke street with their bridal party to McGill campus for some portraits.
After the ceremony at McGill’s Birks Chapel, the bride and groom led a parade of guests waving ribbon wands through the downtown Montreal streets back to the Loews Hotel Vogue for the wedding reception. What a great idea to have the wedding ceremony and reception venues so close to each other. The wedding parade was such a fun sight!
The wedding night was a blast, with speeches from the wedding party and parents and fun dancing led by DJ Johnny Mix. Sarah and Brendan impressed their guests with a lovely first dance and made everyone laugh with their references to Star Trek. With the final bouquet toss to end the night, our photojournalistic coverage was ending and we said our goodbyes. It was truly a pleasure to work with this couple to provide documentary photography for their wedding.
If you’re planning a wedding in downtown Montreal and are interested in hiring me to be the photographer, please send me a quick message and I’ll get back to you with pricing and more info.
