With the freezing winter weather here in Montreal, it’s hard to find quiet indoor places to shoot business profile photos and LinkedIn headshots. There’s no way I can ask clients to stand shivering outside wrapped in a scarf and coat, with bright red cheeks and wind-crazy hair to get their professional portraits done.
So, you can imagine how excited I am to have found a new, easy place to use for headshots!
When Mara contacted me, looking to update her current selfie-style LinkedIn photo with a new professional look, I thought of this Breather website I had heard about from my friend Melanie Dusseault, who shot the interiors photos for their website.
Breather spaces are tiny office/rooms you can rent by the hour for a quiet spot to chill or work between meetings, errands, etc.
The app lets you search for available spaces by Montreal neighbourhoods and you can view a few photos and details. I chose a space right downtown on Sainte-Catherine street.
The room was small but adequate, easy to find and check in. The trendy furniture didn’t feature much in a simple profile portrait, but the surroundings felt well-designed and comfortable.
There was room to set up some studio lights and the table and chairs were great for comfortable posing. There was even a full-length mirror so Mara could do some final touch-ups before her photo session. The white walls made a simple plain background for a profile photo that wouldn’t distract from her face. The one small window even let us get a cityscape background for a little variety. The natural window-light shots were some of Mara’s favourites.
It was so great to find a quiet space right in downtown Montreal to use for professional headshots. Although, I’m tempted to head to other neighbourhoods to try all the different spaces. Like Pokemon…Gotta catch ’em all!
If you want to try a Breather space for yourself, you can use this promo code for 1 free hour.
