Sacha and James were married on a perfect sunny summer day in Montreal. James and Sacha are quiet and reserved, but something about these two seems to capture their people’s allegiance and their wedding day was filled with many close friends celebrating with all their hearts!
On the morning of the wedding, Sacha had a pleasant surprise at the hair salon. By coincidence, several of her friends had booked appointments at the same time as her!
James’s best man Eric stopped by at the hair salon to deliver her bouquet and a gift from James. Her bouquet was gorgeous—a compact, artful arrangement of yellow roses, billy buttons, succulents and silver brunia.
Their wedding colours were grey and yellow and I absolutely loved how the bridesmaids’ bright yellow bouquets POPPED against the muted tones of their grey dresses.
I stopped by James’s apartment to take a few photos of him and Eric getting ready. They were putting the finishing touches on their speeches…so conscientious!
The wedding ceremony took place at the Christ Church Cathedral, smack dab in the middle of downtown Montreal. But the couple didn’t choose it for its convenient location or its impressively-long aisle—they are both regulars at the church! And they were happy to have their own Reverend Rhonda Waters officiate their wedding ceremony.
It was a lovely and unusual experience to hear Sacha and James’s friends playing the banjo and djembe in the Christ Church Cathedral. Way to mix the old and the new!
After the ceremony, the happy couple and their wedding party headed to the McGill University campus for their portraits. It was a meaningful spot to both of them, both having studied there, and Sacha still working there.
Sacha’s bridesmaids had a ball with the group photos, being all adventurous and climbing trees and such!
After sending the rest of the gang off to the reception, Sacha and James took me to a few more spots that were special to them for some photos of just the 2 of them: her tiny office at the Mcgill School of Social Work, nicknamed “The Womb” and the front stoop of her apartment in the Plateau, where James had proposed.
Then we headed to the Olympic Stadium for the reception, which was held at the very top of the stadium tower. Amazing!
I couldn’t resist stopping James and Sacha for a photo op in front of the stadium. A passing group of tourists was quite excited to see the bride and groom.
With a lovely dinner and a few key speeches, the night was off to a good start. The best man’s speech was incredibly heartfelt and full of praise, while the maid of honour’s speech was incredibly…frank…and led to lots of laughter.
Everyone enjoyed the sunset view and the dancing, which included a quasi-perfect rendition of the chicken dance from Arrested Development. Coo-coo-ca-chaw! :)
Congratulations to James and Sacha and I hope you enjoy this selection of photos from their wedding day:
